Passions of Tourism explores the fun side of tourism while examining diverse angles: cultural, economic, social and political. Students are encouraged to think critically about tourism industries, cultural diversities, and emotions. Students will learn how tourism destinations are socially constructed, how tourists perform emotions, how locals feel about tourists, and how tourism can contribute to cultural understanding. We will also investigate the effect of travel guidebooks and other promotional activities on tourism. Together we will travel to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan to examine the great passions of tourism.
